Purpose:
To measure the blood pressure at different times over a 24 hour period. If the blood pressure is too low, the eyes are more likely to suffer damage.
Procedure:
A cuff is placed around the arm and is connected to a small control box at the end of a tube. The control box may be worn on a belt or carried on a shoulder strap. Once the machine has been fitted and tested, the cuff remains in place for the following 24 hours. The machine takes blood pressure readings at hourly intervals, repeating measurements if necessary. At night, the control box may be placed to one side on the bed but it must remain connected to the cuff on the arm. The machine should be returned to LEDC the following day where the results will be downloaded from the control box. The report produced may be taken by the patient or posted to the referring doctor.
How Long Will It Take?
The fitting and testing of the machine will take about 20 minutes. The return visit will take about 10 minutes.
